RBRC 232nd Street Overpass

Located approximately 400 metres north of Highway 1, on 232 Street in the Township of Langley, a new two-lane overpass carries traffic over the existing CP Rail tracks. The contract included the development of a traffic roundabout at the junction of 232 Street with 72 Avenue and Highway 1 on/off ramps which improves community road infrastructure and connectivity, eliminating a significant bottleneck local traffic and emergency response vehicles. A gas line, watermain and some electrical overhead lines were relocated to accommodate the elevated structure. The construction of a temporary detour permitted free flow of traffic around the site during the construction period. Major MSE wall embankments support a vertical realignment of 75 Avenue to connect with 232 Street approximately 4.5 metres above existing ground level. Lightweight fill was used in the embankments to overcome possible settlement issue arising from poor soil conditions.
