Powell Street

The City of Vancouver awarded the Powell Street Overpass Design-Build project to BA Blacktop in April 2013. The overpass is part of a plan to improve access to the Port of
Vancouver and accommodate expanded rail activities in the area. The four-lane bridge structure consists of a single 56 metre long span supported on MSE embankments. The project involved the full closure of Powell Street for the duration of the project and included significant alterations to the road configuration at Hastings Street and Clark Drive to accommodate the necessary diversion of significant traffic volumes from Powell Street. The works at the overpass site involved complex utility relocations and upgrades, some of which were located six metres below grade. Environmental mitigation of existing contaminated soils was a major facet of the project. The overpass opened in July 2014.
