East Dyke

The project involved upgrades to a section of Young Road that serves as a road and flood protection dyke, in a rural area of Chjilliwack BC near the Fraser River prone to flooding.

The East Dyke (Young Road) Upgrades Design-Build Project was partially funded by the City of Chilliwack, the province and the federal government and involved the raising of the roadway by one metre between Cartmell Road and Hope River Road, as well as reconstruction of the roadway running along the top of the dyke structure. Upgrades were needed to meet the current provincial design standards for flood protection, which had been revised to take into account updated hydraulic models that indicate higher design flood water levels than were previously estimated.
